Performer, Creative, Producer, Educator, Changemaker — Can One Person Really Do All That?
As a matter of fact, yes! Socks Whitmore (they/them/theirs) is a Los Angeles-based singer, actor, voice over artist, lyricist-composer, writer, producer, educator, and otherwise professional overachiever; in short, they’re a performer, creative, and changemaker rooted in voice and text.
Socks’ work as a musician and wordsmith spans from live performance to digital media to print, including audio dramas, narrative design for games, poetry, short fiction, op-eds, and more. They have been produced by New Musicals Inc., Overtone Industries, and Feminist Fairytales, and published by Translash Media, the American Composers Forum, Sappho Small Talk blog and Queer Quarterly magazine, among others. They specialize in book, lyrics, and music for original music theater, such as their work on Marrow (Original Vision Selection 2022), We Are Here (New Voices Project winner 2019), and Back to One: A Coming of Self Musical (CalArts 50th Anniversary Alumnx Showcase 2023).

You can hear their VO skills across the internet in audio dramas (Georgie Romero Is Done For, The Sheridan Tapes, Life with Leo(h)), video games (Detour Bus, Cryptid Crew, Georgia), audiobooks (the Narwhal & Jelly series, This Is Our Rainbow), and more than 30 different animated short films. They’ve originated roles on stage in productions like the immersive show Stardust, the ballet operetta Children Cannot Sleep, and the new musical The Bully Problem; on screen they’re known for their performances in Blue Belt and The Magical Christmas Tree. On fancier occasions, they’ve performed in renowned spaces such as the Grand Ole Opry, Carnegie Hall, and the Sydney Opera House.
To top it all off, Socks is a co-founder & facilitator of the trans vocal group 8TPS, a staff member at the gender-expansive Bolero Game Studio, and the proud recipient of the 2024 Vibrant Voice award from Celebration Theatre. They are also an alumni of the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), where they received a BFA Performer-Composer degree with minors in Digital Arts and Creative Writing. A self-described “professional overachiever,” Socks likes to keep busy—if they’re not on stage, set, or their laptop, they can be found watching bad movies and amassing large amounts of socks.

And this person is named… Socks?
It would certainly seem so! Pretty neat, huh? It’s on their passport and everything.
Labels aren’t for everyone, but Socks loves words. As an agender, gender nonconforming, demi-panromantic, asexual, queer, neurodivergent, and disabled artist, authenticity informs every aspect of their practice; their mission is to tell human stories that change people’s hearts and minds for the better. Community advocacy is at the heart of their work — their specialty as an artist-activist is creating accessible, trauma-informed, joy-based spaces and opportunities for professional growth to those on the margins.
